How the scam works

  1. You get a call/text claiming you owe back taxes with an arrest warrant pending.
  2. You are pressured to pay instantly via gift card, wire, or crypto.
  3. Caller ID may be spoofed to look official.

  • Demand for gift cards, wire, or crypto
  • Refusal to let you verify or call back
  • Urgency and secrecy
