How these scams work

  1. Phishing emails spoof a trusted sender or use a look-alike domain (paytm-refund.top, hdfcbank-secure.com).
  2. They include a call to action — verify, re-activate, claim a refund — linking to a credential-harvesting page.
  3. Attachments or links may also deliver malware.

Red flags

  • Sender domain that isn’t the brand’s official domain
  • Generic greetings + urgent demands
  • Mismatched or look-alike "from" address
  • Requests for login, card, or KYC details

Real examples

  • support@paytm-refund.top
  • alerts@hdfcbank-secure.com
  • noreply@asquare-solution.com (extra hyphen)

How to protect yourself

  • Check the exact sender domain; official mail comes from the brand’s real domain.
  • Never share an OTP, PIN, CVV, or password — no bank or company ever asks for them.
  • Verify in the official app or website you typed yourself — never via a link in a message.
  • Slow down: scammers manufacture urgency ("account blocked", "act now") to stop you thinking.

FAQ

How do I know if an email sender is fake?

Check the exact domain. Look-alikes like “hdfcbank-secure.com” or “asquaresolutlon.com” impersonate real brands — ScamCheck detects these automatically.

What is a homoglyph attack?

Scammers swap letters for look-alike characters (e.g. Cyrillic “а” for “a”) to fake a trusted domain. ScamCheck normalizes and flags these.
